Film dari The Spirit of the Beehive (1973) bersinopsis Setelah Perang Saudara Spanyol, Ana, seorang gadis sensitif berusia tujuh tahun di sebuah dusun pedesaan Spanyol mengalami trauma setelah seorang proyektor keliling menyaring cetakan “Frankenstein” tahun 1931 karya James Whale untuk desa tersebut. Anak muda tersebut sangat terganggu dengan adegan di mana monster tersebut membunuh gadis kecil tersebut dan kemudian dibunuh sendiri oleh penduduk desa. Dia mempertanyakan adiknya tentang kedalaman hidup dan mati dan mempercayai kakaknya ketika dia mengatakan kepadanya bahwa monster itu tidak mati, tetapi ada sebagai roh yang menghuni gudang terdekat. Ketika seorang tentara Loyalis, buronan tentara Franco yang menang, bersembunyi di gudang, Ana menyeberang dari kenyataan ke dunia fantasinya sendiri.
